Standing on a bridge tired up... What would be your thoughts?

I would be very emotional... Sad, angry.. I would think and say some things I won't say. I would wonder to myself how that I've gotten myself into this predicament. I would also look for a way to fix it. I wouldn't give up, or lose hope.

What are some modern conveniences we take for granted in our life

Some things we take for granted are: electricity, electronics, and cars. We think these things are plentiful and can replaced easily. When the power goes out, people become so bored, I know I do because you have nothing to do except sit around the house. Some people break things they need everyday, phones, tablets, tv's, GPS, etc... Not because they don't need it, because they think they can get a new one cause they can. Cars are also taken for granted, because people don't follow the rules of the road, that's how we have so many accidents, and deaths off of them.

In what ways do people today still struggle with tensions between individuality and conformity?

The problem today is people don't know if they wanna be an individual or an conformity. Being an individual, you are a standout from the rest, while a conformity, changes the way he/she/it does things in order to fit in with the rest. I think individuality is the best way to be because your different and not similar to others. You don't have to be like everyone else  to get along with them.

How much power do formal institutions have in our society?

Alot of power! The church, gov., and schools are all examples of institutions with a lot of power. The has a lot of power because people want to live by what they believe god is trying to tell them. The government has a lot of power because they control almost everything we do. Schools, they teach us almost everything we know from a young age.

What do you think is the most important quality of gothic stories?

Adjectives to me are the most important. When you have adjectives, you go into detail and describe things. That's what gothic literature does, makes the story weird, dark, suspicious. Adjectives to me fit good in a type of literature like this. For example a silent night could be a cold, foggy, stormy night. To me adjectives make the story more fun to read. They make the story more interesting by helping you get a slight image in your mind. Adjectives are commonly used in literature and this one I think uses a lot of them.

Is there darkness within all us?

Yes, because I believe that darkness is what makes us get angry. Darkness symbolizes something bad, scary, harsh, or even sadness. When something upsets you, you feel one of these ways. I call these dark emotions.

Why can dreamlike settings be powerful in literature and films?

I believes it's because of imagery. When the author describes the setting, it grabs your attention. It paints a picture in your mind. It becomes powerful because it plays with your imagination.

What happens if a secret is kept to long?

It depends on how big of a secret it is! In believe only 3 things can happen: 1. The secret will be forgotten, 2. It won't be a big deal later on in life, and 3. That it might ruin something or make something bad happen. Most of the time, when I think of holding secrets, I thing of relationships. This is a common one because of cheaters, and they try to hold cheating as a secret, but when the secret comes out it usually ruins relationships and probably much more.

Have you ever observed greedy behavior in others?

Yes, a lot! If you have little brother/sisters, or whatever else there is, you' ll see a lot. If you we're to give them A toy, they would fight and fight over it. Instead of sharing it with the other, one would hog   It from the other. In my mind that's being greedy/selfish.

Why do people hear voices in the woods?

I've never known anyone to hear voices in the woods, but I believe there's a reason behind everything. I believe people hear voices in the woods for two reasons. One because either someone is there with them, or two, they are really crazy. I feel that way because if I was in the woods by myself and I heard voices, I would look around to see if I see anybody. If no ones there I would begin to question myself, like did I really hear that, or was it just in my head.

Why do we fear, what we do not know?

I believe we fear what we do not know, because we are nervous of the result/answer. You begin question yourself! And think of the consequences. For example, like if you walk through a door with no light, you can't see your way through, so you don't know what's there in front of you.

What values would you defend most feircly?

Values I would defend, would be something my fellow classmates, friends, and teammates would agree with. Having no homework would be a big one because a lot of us play sports and about 70% of the time by the time we get home from practice, we would've already forgotten about our homework. Another would be for teachers to get inline because now a days teachers are starting to stretch their limits. Another thing I would defend is break, because without that we have to be in the classroom all the time.

How do you determine if a particular speech is effective?

The audience will tell you if it is effective or not. If a speech is effective, it will gain the audiences attention. If it doesn't get to the audience, then it would've been a waste of time. Most of the time an effective speech will draw an reaction from the audience.

Examples

Restatement-  we are equal, we are all one
Repetition- god loves me, he really does love me
Parallelism- they are laughing at you, not with you
Rhetorical- did you know that I'm your biggest fan!

What makes a good speech effective?

What makes a good speech effective, detail. When someone emphasizes the point that they are trying to get across. They use voice, like getting louder, almost like they are shouting to get noticed.

Early American Spoken Forms Mini-Research Project

Bandwagon

I find bandwagon effective because usually they use a famous person. An athlete, celebrity, or someone really popular. When people see someone they wanna be like doing something it persuades them to give it a try. That's how most things get started, get around.

Motivational Video

I choose this motivational speech because it's full of emotion(pathos). I've seen this video thousands of times because I'm a video game person, and this is the intro to last years football game.
You can watch it here...

What's the best speech you've ever listened to?

The best speech I've ever listened to is was the football motivation speech we always watched before our game. It was memorable because it's dealing with something I love, the game of football, and it got me and our team hype/ready for our battle with the opposing team. It had a football team and showed them working just as hard as we do, and it made us ask ourselves, why not us! It made us ask ourselves, why can't we be successful just like them, we work just as hard. That's why this speech was so memorable.

Essential Question Blog #1 Entry

I think you will find people talking about stuff like taking care of the environment. A person who loves nature would probably depend on their resources. One would probably plant crops to grow and eat.  Native Americans  are examples of people who respect nature. They are hunters and gatherers!
